Weekly Peace Vigil in Hawaii


Organized by Jim Albertini, the Malu Aina Big Island Weekly Peace Vigils started on Sept. 12, 2001 and have continued ever since. The Buddhist Peace Fellowship vigils started across the street in Kalakaua Park around Sept. 2003 under the leadership of Roshi Robert Aitken who, at 87, moved to the Diamond Sangha ohana on Oahu in 2004. The Kalakaua Park zazen sittings continue with group coordinator, Fred Stoeber.

When?

 Every Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Where?

  In front of the Federal Building (main Post Office) in downtown, Hilo (across from the King Kalakaua Park). Buddhist Peace Fellowship silent zazen sittings are directly across the street in Kalakaua Park.

What to Bring?

  An umbrella. For protection from the sun, wear a hat, sunglasses and use sunblock.
